Mairie La Chevillotte

La Chevillotte is a French municipality with 147 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in Doubs in the region Bourgogne Franche-Comté .

geography

La Chevillotte is located at 423  m , about eleven kilometers east-southeast of the city of Besançon (as the crow flies). The scattered settlement extends in the western Jura , on the so-called first plateau in the middle of an extensive forest area, between the heights of the Jura ridge in the north and the Grand Mont in the south.

The area of the 7.68 km² municipality covers a section of the western French Jura. The entire area with only very weak relief is taken up by the wide first Jura plateau, which is 420 m on average. It forms a wide basin with no surface drainage because the rainwater seeps into the karstified subsoil. In the area of La Chevillotte, this depression consists primarily of forest, in which there are various clearing islands. To the east is the Forêt de Bouclans , where the highest point of La Chevillotte is reached on a hill at 455 m. The municipal area extends with a narrow strip to the southwest as far as the Le Grand Frêne forest .

La Chevillotte consists of several hamlet settlements and individual farms, including:

  • La Grosse Grange ( 423  m )
  • La Vieille Chevillotte ( 424  m )
  • Grange du Bosquet ( 427  m )
  • La Batière ( 427  m ) on the old road from Saône to Mamirolle

Neighboring municipalities of La Chevillotte are Gennes and Nancray in the north, Bouclans and Naisey-les-Granges in the east, Mamirolle in the south and Saône in the west.

With 147 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017), La Chevillotte is one of the smallest communities in the Doubs department. After the population in the first half of the 20th century had always been in the range between 50 and 73 people, population growth has been recorded since the early 1960s.

Economy and Infrastructure

Until well into the 20th century, La Chevillotte was predominantly a village characterized by agriculture (arable farming, fruit growing and cattle breeding) and forestry. Today La Chevillotte has a golf course. In the meantime, the village has also turned into a residential community. Some employed people are commuters who work in the larger towns in the area.

The village is located off the major thoroughfares on a departmental road that leads from Saône to Gonsans . Further road connections exist with Mamirolle and Nancray.
