Guillon-les-Bains is a French commune with 109 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in Doubs in the region Bourgogne Franche-Comté .
geography
Guillon-les-Bains is located at 298 m, five kilometers southeast of Baume-les-Dames and about 29 kilometers east-northeast of the city of Besançon (as the crow flies). The village extends in the Jura , in the valley of the Cusancin , between the heights of the Bois du Saussoi in the north and the Mont d'Adam in the south.
The area of the 4.72 km² municipality covers a section of the French Jura. The northern part of the area is occupied by the valley of the Cusancin. The river flows here from east to west through a valley cut 150 m deep into the surrounding plateaus and has a maximum 300 m wide, flat valley depression. The valley is flanked on both sides by steep slopes, which are dominated by limestone walls and prominent projections in various places. The northern border runs in the Bois du Saussoi (up to 500 m), which forms the westernmost branch of the Lomont chain . To the south, the community area extends over the steep slope to the adjacent, slightly undulating plateau of Passavant. At 561 m, the highest point in Guillon-les-Bains is reached on Mont d'Adam.
Neighboring municipalities of Guillon-les-Bains are Villers-Saint-Martin and Lomont-sur-Crête in the north, Cusance and Montivernage in the east, Adam-lès-Passavant in the south and Pont-les-Moulins in the west.
history
The Guillon mineral spring was already in use in the 18th century. In the course of the 19th century the place developed into a nationally known thermal bath. To avoid confusion with Guillon , Guillon was officially renamed Guillon-les-Bains in 1922.
Attractions
The town center is characterized by houses in the traditional Franche-Comté style, which were built in the 18th and 19th centuries.

With 109 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017), Guillon-les-Bains is one of the smallest municipalities in the Doubs department. After the population had decreased significantly in the first half of the 20th century (201 people were still counted in 1881), slight population growth has been recorded again since the mid-1970s.
Economy and Infrastructure
After Guillon-les-Bains lived mainly from the spa in the 19th century, the village today is mainly characterized by agriculture (arable farming, fruit growing and cattle breeding). There are also some local small businesses. Many workers are also commuters who work in the larger towns in the area.
The village is off the major thoroughfares on a departmental road that leads from Pont-les-Moulins to Cusance. Another road connection exists with Montivernage.
