Côte Brune is a French commune with a population of 80 (as at 1st January 2017) in the Doubs department in the region of Bourgogne Franche-Comté .
geography
Côtebrune is located at 483 m , about 22 kilometers east of the city of Besançon (as the crow flies). The village extends in the Jura , on the so-called first plateau on the edge of a hill above the valley of the Audeux.
The area of the 3.22 km² large municipal area covers a section of the French Jura. The main part of the area is taken up by the plateau of Côtebrune, which lies at an average of 480 m and belongs to the broad first Jura plateau. It is partly made up of arable land and meadow, partly also of forest. To the east, the plateau descends towards the valley of the Audeux . To the southeast, the community area extends over a dry valley in the catchment area of the Audeux to the adjacent forest heights, which leads over to the high plateau of Valdahon . The highest point in Côtebrune is reached here at 584 m.
Neighboring communities of Côtebrune are Aïssey in the north, Magny-Châtelard in the east, Gonsans in the south and Glamondans in the west.
history
In the Middle Ages, Côtebrune formed its own small rule. Together with Franche-Comté , the village came to France with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678. Côtebrune does not have its own church; it belongs to the parish of Gonsans.
Attractions
The square keep belonged to a former mansion from the 14th or 15th century. Various farmhouses in the characteristic style of Franche-Comté from the 17th to 19th centuries have been preserved in the town center.

With 80 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017), Côtebrune is one of the smallest communities in the Doubs department. After the population had decreased significantly in the first half of the 20th century (148 people were still counted in 1881), a slight population growth has been recorded again since the mid-1970s.
Economy and Infrastructure
Until well into the 20th century, Côtebrune was primarily a village characterized by agriculture (arable farming, fruit growing and cattle breeding). Even today, the residents live mainly from their work in the first sector. Outside of the primary sector there are almost no jobs in the village. Many workers are also commuters who work in the surrounding larger towns.
The village is off the main thoroughfares, but is easily accessible from the departmental roads that lead from Besançon to Sancey-le-Grand and from Baume-les-Dames to Ornans .
