Mairie Laissey

Laissey is a French municipality with 439 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in Doubs in the region Bourgogne Franche-Comté .

geography

Laissey is located at 266  m , about 17 kilometers east-northeast of the city of Besançon (as the crow flies). The village extends in the Doubstal on the right northern side of the river, which draws a sharp curve here, in the extreme northwestern mountain ranges of the Jura , between the Mont Souvance in the north and the Côte de Vaite in the south.

The area of the 2.86 km² municipal area includes a section of the Doubstal. The Doubs flows here with several bends through a mostly 500 m wide flat floodplain to the west and at the same time forms the waterway of the Rhine-Rhône Canal . The valley is deeply cut between two mountain ranges of the system of the Jura rim chain, which form anticlines in geological and tectonic terms . The erosion force of the river removed parts of these anticlines, creating steep slopes crowned by rock faces. The Mont Souvance ( 549  m ) rises north of the Doubsbogen with its distinctive rock ledge (southern leg of an anticline). The northern border runs in the narrow saddle between Mont Souvance and the neighboring mountain Pic d'Aigremont . To the south, the community area extends over a steep slope with rock walls up to the ridge of the Côte de Vaite , which separates the Doube valley from the adjacent first Jura plateau. At 592 m, the highest point of Laissey is reached at the height of the Côte.

Neighboring municipalities of Laissey are Roulans in the north, Ougney-Douvot in the east, Champlive in the south and Deluz in the west.

history

In the Middle Ages, Laissey was a fiefdom of the Neuchâtel rulership. Together with Franche-Comté , the village finally came to France with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678. Iron ore was mined near Laissey in the 19th century. The economic life of the village was characterized by a weaving mill in the second half of the 19th century. This was replaced in 1901 by Usine Bost Frères, which specializes in tool manufacture.

Attractions

The village church of Laissey was built in the 18th century. Popular vantage points over the Doubstal include Mont Souvance and the ruins of Château de Vaite, which originally dates back to the 13th century but was demolished in 1793.

With 439 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) Laissey is one of the small communities in the Doubs department. After the population in the first half of the 20th century was mostly in the range between 450 and 580 people, a population decline has been recorded since the early 1970s. Only recently has there been a slight upward trend.

Economy and Infrastructure

Laissey was a village characterized by the water-dependent industry since the late 18th century. Today Usine Bost Frères is the most important employer (leader in the production of pliers). There are also various local small business and retail businesses. Many workers are therefore commuters who go to work in the Besançon agglomeration.

The village is located away from the major thoroughfares on a department road that leads from Roulans to Gonsans . The closest connection to the A36 motorway is around 13 kilometers away. Other road connections exist with Deluz and Ougney-Douvot. Laissey has a train station on the Besançon– Montbéliard section of the Dole – Belfort railway line, which was opened in 1858 .
