Thise is a French commune with 3,044 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in Doubs in the region Bourgogne Franche-Comté .

geography

Thise is located at 275  m , about seven kilometers northeast of the city of Besançon (as the crow flies). The largest suburb of Besançon extends in the Doubstal , at a slightly elevated position in a hollow on the northern edge of the valley, on the edge of the Forêt de Chailluz and on the northwestern edge of the Jura .

The area of the 8.93 km² municipal area includes a section of the Doubstal. The southern border runs along the Doubs, which flows here with several bends through a flat valley lowland maximum 2 kilometers wide and is accompanied by the Rhine-Rhône Canal . From the course of the river, the community area extends northward over the wide floodplain and the adjacent 50 to 80 m high step into which the Thise hollow is sunk, down to the high plateau. This is on average at 320 m and is covered by an extensive forest ( Forêt de Chailluz and Bois de Sassy ). At 422 m, the highest elevation of Thise is reached on a ridge of the Bois de Sassy in the extreme northeast of the area.

Neighboring municipalities of Thise are Braillans and Marchaux-Chaudefontaine in the north, Amagney and Roche-lez-Beaupré in the east, Chalèze and Chalezeule in the south and Besançon in the west.

history

Various finds (wall foundations, ceramics and bricks) indicate that the municipality of Thise was already settled during Roman times. Thise is first mentioned in writing in 1090 under the name Tysia . In the course of time the spelling changed from Tisse , Thyze and Tize to today's Thise (1652). A church in Thise is documented as early as 1119. Since 1140 Thise formed the center of a rule that lasted until the end of the 14th century and was under the suzerainty of the lords of Montfaucon . Together with Franche-Comté , the village finally came to France with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678.

Attractions

The current Saint-Hilaire-de-Poitiers church was built in 1827. The village includes a manor house from the 18th century and a farm from the 16th century.

With 3,044 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017), Thise is one of the medium-sized communities in the Doubs department. After the population in the first half of the 20th century had always been in the range between 350 and 440 people, a striking population growth has been recorded since the beginning of the 1960s. Since then the number of inhabitants has increased more than fivefold. The settlement area, which extends along the sun-exposed northern slope of the Doubs valley, has now merged with that of Besançon.

Economy and Infrastructure

Up until the 20th century, Thise was a village dominated by agriculture (arable farming, fruit growing and cattle breeding) and forestry. Since the 1950s, a commercial and industrial zone has developed west of the village on the main road on the outskirts of Besançon, which is divided into the municipalities of Thise, Besançon and Chalezeule with its approximately 100 hectares. Numerous companies in the microtechnology, metal processing, electronics and transport industries have settled on the grounds of Thise. There are also several trading and logistics companies as well as various retail businesses. In the meantime, the village has also turned into a residential community. Many workers are therefore commuters who go to work in the Besançon agglomeration.

The village is well developed in terms of traffic. It is close to the main road N83 that runs from Besançon to Montbéliard . The closest connection to the A36 motorway is around nine kilometers away. Further road connections exist with Chalèze, Chalezeule and Marchaux. Besançon-Thise airfield was established in 1933 in the Doubs valley below Thise.

Parish partnership

Thise has had a community partnership with Partenstein in the German state of Bavaria since 1988 .
