Mairie Palantine |
Palantine is a French commune with a population of 72 (as at 1st January 2017) in the Doubs department in the region of Bourgogne Franche-Comté .
geography
Palantine is located at 370 m , about 18 kilometers south-southwest of the city of Besançon (as the crow flies). The village extends in the Jura , in a slight hollow on the plateau west of the valley of the Loue , which extends here in an arc far to the north, east of the height of the Landet.
The area of the 4.31 km² large municipality covers a section of the French Jura. The central part of the area is occupied by the Palantine basin, which averages 370 m. The plateau is mainly made up of meadow land, but also shows a moor area. To the south, the community soil extends over a stepped terrain to the plateau of Goux, on which the highest elevation of Palantine is reached at 441 m. In the north-west and north, the community area extends over the plateau to the foot of the Landet and into an extensive forest area. The plateau has no above-ground watercourses because the rainwater seeps into the karstified subsoil.
Neighboring municipalities of Palantine are Charnay in the north, Courcelles in the east, Rouhe and Goux-sous-Landet in the south and Lavans-Quingey and Cessey in the west.

Economy and Infrastructure
Until well into the 20th century, Palantine was a village dominated by agriculture and forestry. Even today, the residents live mainly from their work in the first sector. Outside of the primary sector there are almost no jobs in the village. Some workers are also commuters who work in the surrounding larger towns.
The village is located off the major thoroughfares near the department road which leads from Quingey to Épeugney . Another road connection is with Goux-sous-Landet.
