Yaniv Katan (born January 27, 1981 in Haifa ) is an Israeli football player . He plays in the position of the striker .

Career

At the age of nine, Katan went to the school of Maccabi Haifa , one of the most famous and successful clubs in Israel. He went through all of the club's youth teams and also played in the youth teams of the Israeli national team . At the age of just 17, Katan rose from the A-youth straight to the professional squad. He was the first player on an Israeli team to score a goal in the UEFA Champions League . On September 18, 2002, he shot at Old Trafford by Manchester United the 1: 0 after 8 minutes. His team lost 5-2 in the end, but it was a huge success for him because he was able to write himself down in the history books.

Meanwhile, Katan had collected five championships with his club Maccabi Haifa when he received an offer from the English club West Ham United in January 2006 . Katan accepted, but could hardly book any appearances in the English Premier League and went back to Haifa in the summer of 2006 disappointed.
