Chevigney-sur-l'Ognon is a French municipality with 292 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in Doubs in the region Bourgogne Franche-Comté .

geography

Chevigney-sur-l'Ognon is located at an altitude of 225  m above sea level, about 16 kilometers west-northwest of the city of Besançon (as the crow flies). The village extends on a slightly elevated position in the wide valley of the Ognon , south of the river and on the northern edge of the Bois des Fouchères.

The area of ​​the 4.58 km² municipal area covers a section of the lower Ognontal. The northern border runs along the Ognon, which flows here with a few bends through a mostly around two kilometer wide valley floor to the west. The Lanterne flows east of the village and also flows through a wide valley. From the course of the Ognon river, the community area extends southwards over the alluvial plain , which is 210 m on average and consists mainly of arable and meadow land, but also shows some smaller forest areas. Further south are the extensive forests of the Bois d'Avaux and the Bois des Fouchères . At 241 m, the highest point in Chevigney-sur-l'Ognon is reached on a knoll on the edge of the Bois des Fouchères .

Neighboring municipalities of Chevigney-sur-l'Ognon are Brussey and Beaumotte-lès-Pin in the north, Émagny in the east, Noironte and Recologne in the south and Ruffey-le-Château in the west.

history

Together with Franche-Comté , Chevigney finally came to France with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678. To avoid confusion with other parishes of the same name, Chevigney was officially renamed Chevigney-sur-l'Ognon in 1905. Today Chevigney-sur-l'Ognon is a member of the Val Marnaysien municipal association .

Château de Chevigney

The single-nave Saint-Léger church was built in the 18th century in the classical style. The Château de Chevigney, built in 1764 and extensively restored in 1850 and 1885, stands in a large English park.

With 292 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017), Chevigney-sur-l'Ognon is one of the small communities in the Doubs department. After the population in the first half of the 20th century had always been in the range between 95 and 120 people, a significant increase in population was recorded especially between 1975 and 1982.

Economy and Infrastructure

Until well into the 20th century, Chevigney-sur-l'Ognon was primarily a village characterized by agriculture (arable farming, fruit growing and cattle breeding) and forestry. In addition, there are now some local small businesses. In the meantime, the village has also turned into a residential community. Many workers are commuters who work in the Besançon agglomeration.

The village is located away from the major thoroughfares on a department road that leads from Émagny to Ruffey-le-Château. The closest connection to the A36 motorway is around 15 km away. There are further road connections with Recologne and Chaucenne.
