Mairie Bretigney-Notre-Dame

Bretigney-Notre-Dame is a French municipality with 110 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in Doubs in the region Bourgogne Franche-Comté .

geography

Bretigney-Notre-Dame is located at 397  m , six kilometers southwest of Baume-les-Dames and about 22 kilometers east-northeast of the city of Besançon (as the crow flies). The village extends in the Jura , on the so-called first plateau, a wide basin at the southern foot of the Jura ridge (Côte).

The area of the municipality of 5.62 km² covers a section of the French Jura. The main part of the area is occupied by the wide first Jura plateau, which is an average of 390 m. It forms a wide, partially karstified basin. In the Bretigney area, the plateau is predominantly made up of arable and meadow land. To the south, the communal soil extends into the wooded area of the Forêt de l'Aiguillon , and the little valley of the Audeux , which is slightly sunk into the plateau, forms the southern boundary.

To the north, the community area extends over the elongated, wooded ridge of the Jura ridge ( Côte ). This ridge separates the plateau from the deeply cut Doubstal to the north and is oriented towards the southwest-northeast. The highest point of Bretigney-Notre-Dame is reached at 589 m.

Neighboring municipalities to Bretigney-Notre-Dame are Ougney-Douvot and Esnans in the north, Silley-Bléfond in the east, Saint-Juan in the south and Dammartin-les-Templiers in the west.

history

The place name Bretigney appears for the first time in the documents in 1147. In the Middle Ages the village belonged to the Passavant rule. At the end of the 15th century it passed to the Orsans family and in 1530 to the governor of Besançon. Antoine-François Gauthiot d'Ancier decreed that the rule of Bretigney passed to the Jesuit College of Besançon after his death, which she then held until the French Revolution . Together with Franche-Comté , Bretigney came to France with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678. To make it easier to distinguish it from Bretigney , which is also located in the Doubs department, the municipality name was officially changed to Bretigney-Notre-Dame in 1923.

Attractions

The village church of Bretigney-Notre-Dame was rebuilt in the 18th century. Various farmhouses in the characteristic style of Franche-Comté from the 17th to 19th centuries have been preserved in the town center.

With 110 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017), Bretigney-Notre-Dame is one of the smallest communities in the Doubs department. After the population had decreased markedly in the first half of the 20th century (189 people were still counted in 1881), a slight population growth has been recorded again since the beginning of the 1970s.

Economy and Infrastructure

Until well into the 20th century, Bretigney-Notre-Dame was predominantly a village characterized by agriculture (arable farming, fruit growing and cattle breeding) and forestry. In addition, there are now some local small businesses, including wood processing. In the meantime, the village has also turned into a residential community. Many employed people are commuters who work in the larger towns in the area or in the Besançon agglomeration.

The village is off the major thoroughfares on a departmental road that leads from Nancray to Baume-les-Dames .
