geography

course

Large cascade at La Grâce-Dieu monastery

The Audeux rises in the northwestern foothills of the Jura , in the municipality of Eysson , from a rich karst spring . Initially it runs in a north-westerly direction, takes in several nameless streams from the south-west and then feeds some mills. In a shallow valley, the river then flows through the villages of Bremondans , Amans, Leugney and Orsans .

After Orsans, the Audeux bends west and reaches a narrow gorge. There he overcomes many waterfalls , including the ten meter high cascade . It then crosses the area of the La Grâce-Dieu monastery and reaches an area where the river water disappears underground in karst limestone. The riverbed is from there that most of the year dry. This seeping water reappears in the Source du Sesserant .

When the water level is high, the Audeux runs from the monastery of La Grâce-Dieu above ground towards Aïssey , where it changes its direction of flow to the northwest. It then bends in a northeastern direction and flows into another gorge with rapids and waterfalls. At the Bléfond mill in the municipality of Silley-Bléfond , the Audeux flows as a right tributary into the 130 m long Sesserant .
