Wei Jianxing

Wei Jianxing ( Chinese  尉健行 , Pinyin Wèi Jiànxíng ; * 1931 in Xinchang ( Zhejiang Province ); † August 7, 2015 in Beijing ) was a Chinese communist politician, former chairman of the Central Disciplinary Commission and former member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party China .

Studies and professional career

Wei, who joined the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) in 1949 , studied mechanical engineering at the Dalian Engineering Institute, graduating in 1952 with an engineering degree. From 1953 to 1955 he then completed a business degree in an aluminum factory in the Soviet Union .

After returning to China, he worked for an aluminum plant in northeast China for 25 years. During this time he rose to 1980 from the deputy head and head of a part of the plant to the production director, chairman of the revolutionary committee of the plant, secretary of the party committee and finally to the director of the plant.

Promotion to member of the Standing Committee of the Politburo

He then completed a cadre study at the party school of the Central Committee (ZK) from 1980 to 1981 . He was then deputy secretary of the Party Committee and mayor of Harbin City in Heilongjiang Province until 1983 . In 1982 he was elected a candidate for the Central Committee at the 12th CCP Congress.

From 1983 to 1984 he was Vice President and member of the Secretariat of the All-China Trade Union Confederation. He then worked as deputy head and head of the organization department of the Central Committee. From 1987 to 1993, he served in the Cabinet of Prime Minister Li Peng as Minister of State Control. Also in 1987 he was elected a member of the Central Committee at the 13th Party Congress.

At the 14th Congress of the CCP in 1992, he was elected a member of the Politburo , member of the Secretariat, and Secretary of the Central Disciplinary Commission of the CCP Central Committee. From 1995 to 1997 he was also secretary of the Beijing Party Committee .

At the 15th Congress in 1997, he was also elected a member of the Standing Committee of the Politburo of the Communist Party of China . He belonged to the top party leadership and took 6th place in this body.

At the CCP's 16th Congress in 2002, Wei lost his office due to an age restriction as part of a transfer of power from Jiang Zemin to Hu Jintao . His successor was the confidante of the previous party leader Jiang Zemin, Wu Guanzheng .

At the 12th Congress of the All-China Trade Union Confederation in 1993 he was elected President of the Executive Committee. In October 1998 he was re-elected to that office at the 13th Congress.
