Noironte is a French municipality with 386 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in Doubs in the region Bourgogne Franche-Comté .
geography
Noironte is located at an altitude of 223 m above sea level, about twelve kilometers west-northwest of the city of Besançon (as the crow flies). The village extends in the gently undulating landscape between the rivers of Doubs in the south and Ognon in the north, in the basin of the Ruisseau de Noironte.
The area of the 6.73 km² large municipal area includes a section south of the Ognon. From south-east to north-west, the area is crossed by the valley basin of the Ruisseau de Noironte, which provides drainage to the Ognon. Below the village, the hollow widens to a one kilometer wide valley floor. The valley is flanked on both sides by hills, which are partly used for agriculture and partly covered with forest. The northern boundary runs in the extensive Bois des Fouchères forest (up to 240 m). In a hollow on the edge of this forest ( Creux des Renards ) there is a 2 hectare pond. To the west, the municipality extends into the Bois du Breuil and to the village stream of Placey, a left tributary of the Ruisseau de Noironte. At 278 m, the highest point in Noironte is reached on the heights of the Bois de la File near Audeux.
Neighboring municipalities of Noironte are Chevigney-sur-l'Ognon and Émagny in the north, Chaucenne , Pouilley-les-Vignes and Champvans-les-Moulins in the east, Champagney , Audeux and Placey in the south and Recologne in the west.
history
Noironte was first mentioned in writing in 1073 under the name Nerontio in a document from the Saint-Paul monastery in Besançon. Over time, the spelling changed via Nigronte (1108), Nigrunta (1139), Noironte (first 1287), Noyronte (1344) and Noirontes (1629) to the current form. In the Middle Ages, the village formed its own rule, the origin of which is obscure. From the 13th century the Noironte fief belonged to the lords of Apremont and Moncley , later it was dependent on the lordship of Arguel . Together with Franche-Comté , the village came to France with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678. The Noironte lordship was made a marquisate in 1713. Today Noironte is a member of the Communauté d'agglomération du Grand Besançon .
Attractions
The Saint-Martin church was built from 1855 to 1880 in the neo-Gothic style. The furnishings include a richly carved pulpit from the 18th century.
The castle originally dates from the 16th century. It was rebuilt in 1786 after a fire. It consists of two wings that are joined together in an L shape and surmounted by two towers. The castle has a park with huge trees and a pigeon house. The building, classified as a Monument Historique since 1992 , is now privately owned and cannot be visited.

With 386 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) Noironte is one of the small communities in the Doubs department. After the population had decreased in the first half of the 20th century (273 people were counted in 1886), the population has continued to grow steadily since the early 1960s.
Economy and Infrastructure
Until well into the 20th century, Noironte was mainly a village characterized by agriculture (arable farming, fruit growing and cattle breeding) and forestry. Today there are some local small businesses, including a cheese dairy with more than 30 employees and mechanical workshops. In the meantime, the village has also turned into a residential community. Many workers are commuters who work in the Besançon agglomeration.
The village is located off the major thoroughfares on a departmental road that leads from Pelousey to Recologne. The closest connection to the A36 motorway is around eight kilometers away. Other road connections exist with Audeux, Émagny and Chaucenne. Noironte is connected to the city of Besançon by bus line 62.
