Roset-Fluans is a French municipality with 520 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in Doubs in the region Bourgogne Franche-Comté .

geography

Roset-Fluans is located at 235  m , about 17 kilometers southwest of the city of Besançon (as the crow flies). The village extends on the western edge of the Jura in a slightly elevated position on the plateau south of the Doube valley , which emerges here into the Saône plain.

The area of the 8.28 km² municipal area includes a section of the Doubstal. In the north and east, the border always runs along the Doubs, which flows here in a large arc around the height of Château le Bois . The valley is usually about 1 km wide. From the course of the river, the community area extends southwards over the flat floodplain and a 20 m high steep step onto the adjacent plateau, which is an average of 250 m. The area is partly used as arable land and meadow, partly it is covered with forest; in the far south, the communal soil extends into the Forêt de Chaux forest area . In the southeast, on the edge of the Doube valley, there is the elongated forest height Château le Bois , on which the highest elevation of Roset-Fluans is reached at 357 m. At the east foot of this height is the entrance to the stalactite cave Grotte d'Osselle .

The municipality of Roset-Fluans consists of the following settlements:

  • Roset ( 235  m ) on the edge of the plateau above the Doubstal
  • Fluans ( 220  m ) in the Doubstal opposite Routelle
  • La Corne-de-Chaux ( 260  m ) on the plateau on the edge of the Forêt de Chaux

history

The Roset Castle has been documented in writing since the beginning of the 13th century. It was destroyed in 1305 by the troops of Countess Mahaut von Artois and later fell into disrepair. Together with Franche-Comté , the village finally came to France with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678. The area changed in the early 19th century: In 1822, Fluans merged with Roset to form Roset-Fluans. In 1825 La Corne-de-Chaux and Château-le-Bois were also incorporated. The latter was abandoned in the following years, and the former settlement area is now overgrown by forest.

With 520 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) Roset-Fluans is one of the small communities in the Doubs department. After the population had decreased significantly in the first half of the 20th century (382 people were still counted in 1881), the population has continued to grow since the mid-1970s.

Economy and Infrastructure

Until well into the 20th century, Roset-Fluans was primarily a village characterized by agriculture (arable farming, fruit growing and cattle breeding) and forestry. In addition, there are now various local small businesses. In the meantime, the village has also turned into a residential community. Many workers are commuters who work in the Besançon agglomeration.

The village is located off the major thoroughfares on a departmental road that leads from Salans to Byans-sur-Doubs . The closest connection to the A36 motorway is around 16 kilometers away. There are other road connections with Saint-Vit and Routelle.
