Villers-Buzon is a French municipality with 259 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in Doubs in the region Bourgogne Franche-Comté .
geography
Villers-Buzon is located at an altitude of 240 m above sea level, about 13 kilometers west of the city of Besançon (as the crow flies). The village extends in the gently undulating landscape between the rivers of Doubs in the south and Ognon in the north, in the basin of the Ruisseau de Corcondray.
The area of the 3.19 km² municipal area includes a section south of the Ognon. The area is slightly undulating and consists mainly of arable and meadow land; There are only a few forest areas. The Ruisseau de Corcondray, which flows through an initially relatively narrow valley that gradually widens below the village, provides drainage to the west to the Ognon. At 295 m, the highest point in Villers-Buzon is reached on the hill north of the village. To the north, the municipality extends over the hills to the valley of the Ruisseau de Pommeau , a side stream of the Ruisseau de Corcondray.

history
The municipality of Villers-Buzon was already settled in Gallo-Roman times, which has been proven by various excavation finds. Villers-Buzon was first mentioned in a document in 1096. In the Middle Ages, the village belonged to the Corcondray dominion. Together with Franche-Comté , Villers-Buzon finally came to France with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678. Today Villers-Buzon is a member of the Val Marnaysien municipal association .
Attractions
The village church of Villers-Buzon originally dates back to the early 17th century, but the nave and sacristy were rebuilt in the 18th century. It has one of the oldest bells in Franche-Comté, dating from around 1400. In the square in front of the church there is a statue of Joan of Arc (19th century). Also worth seeing is the Maison Maurivard, a former mansion that was built around 1549.

With 259 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) Villers-Buzon is one of the small communities in the Doubs department. After the population in the first half of the 20th century had always been in the range between 70 and 110 people, there has been significant population growth since the beginning of the 1970s. Since then, the number of inhabitants has tripled.
Economy and Infrastructure
Until well into the 20th century, Villers-Buzon was primarily a village characterized by agriculture (arable farming, fruit growing and cattle breeding). In addition, there are now some local small businesses. In the meantime, the village has also turned into a residential community. Many workers are commuters who work in the Besançon agglomeration.
The village is located off the main thoroughfares on a departmental road that leads from Franois to Lantenne-Vertière . The closest connection to the A36 motorway is around seven kilometers away. Further road connections exist with Mazerolles-le-Salin, Dannemarie-sur-Crète and Pouilley-Français.
