geography

Goux-sous-Landet

Goux-sous-Landet is located at 425  m , about 19 kilometers south-southwest of the city of Besançon (as the crow flies). The village extends in the Jura , on the plateau west of the valley of the Loue , which extends here in an arc far to the north, at the eastern foot of the height of the Landet.

The area of the 5.42 km² large municipality covers a section of the French Jura. The eastern part of the area is occupied by the Goux plateau, which is at an average of 440 m and consists partly of meadows, partly of forest. The plateau has no above-ground watercourses because the rainwater seeps into the karstified subsoil. To the west, the community area extends over the densely wooded, elongated ridge of the Bois du Landet , which is oriented in a north-south direction. Here, at 581 m, the highest point in Goux-sous-Landet is reached.

Neighboring municipalities of Goux-sous-Landet are Palantine in the north, Rouhe in the east, Cussey-sur-Lison and Le Val with Pointvillers in the south and Pessans and Lavans-Quingey in the west.

history

In the Middle Ages belonged to Goux Kastlanei of Quingey . Together with Franche-Comté , the village came to France with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678. To avoid confusion with other localities of the same name, Goux was officially renamed Goux-sous-Landet in 1923.

population

With 71 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017), Goux-sous-Landet is one of the smallest municipalities in the Doubs department. After the population had decreased significantly in the first half of the 20th century (113 people were still counted in 1886), only slight fluctuations have been recorded since the early 1970s.

Economy and Infrastructure

Goux-sous-Landet was a village dominated by agriculture and forestry until well into the 20th century. Even today, the residents live mainly from their work in the first sector. Outside of the primary sector there are almost no jobs in the village. Some workers are also commuters who work in the surrounding larger towns.

The village is located off the main thoroughfares near a department road that leads from Courcelles to Myon .
