Steering cables or steering cords are ropes or cords , which for steering of vehicles such as soap , Bobs in the bobsleigh , with smaller boats ( Inflatable etc.) or even at Stuntkite or Kites are used. Steering ropes or steering cords are usually used in pairs and can consist of different materials .

In kite sports today, steering cords made of various plastics are used. These kite lines are usually 30 m long, whereby the length can be varied by several meters in both directions. With kites it is possible to use four lines (two steering lines and two brake lines) with two special handles or a trapeze , whereby the two brake lines can also be used as steering lines.

In vehicles with steering ropes, steel ropes with a correspondingly high tensile strength are usually used for safety and structural reasons , which are designed as Bowden cables.
