Pointvillers was a municipality in the French department of Doubs in the region Bourgogne Franche-Comté . Pointvillers has been part of the municipality of Le Val since January 1st, 2017 .
geography
Pointvillers is located 330 m south of Quingey , about 22 kilometers south-southwest of the city of Besançon (as the crow flies). The village extends in the western Jura , on a plateau-like hill east of the Loue at the foot of the Bois du Landet.
The area of the 3.81 km² former municipal area covers a section of the western French Jura. The western part of the area is occupied by the Pointvillers plateau, which lies in a wide basin between the extreme ridges of the Jura at about 330 m. It consists mainly of meadow land. To the east, the community area extended over a steep slope onto the wooded ridge of the Bois du Landet , which is part of a Jura chain that stretches north from Mont Poupet to the loop of the Loue river. The highest point of Pointvillers was reached here with 564 m. A small part of the area is located on the plateau ( 450 m ) that adjoins the ridge to the east .
Neighboring communities of Pointvillers were Pessans in the north, Goux-sous-Landet and Cussey-sur-Lison in the east and Échay and Montfort in the south.
history
In the Middle Ages Pointvillers belonged to the dominions of Montfort and Châteauvieux. Together with Franche-Comté , the village came to France with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678.
The municipality of Pointvillers merged with Montfort on January 1, 2017 to form the new municipality of Le Val .

With 144 inhabitants most recently (as of January 1, 2014) Pointvillers was one of the smallest communities in the Doubs department. After the population had decreased significantly in the first half of the 20th century (180 people were still counted in 1891), a slight population growth has been recorded again since the beginning of the 1980s.
Economy and Infrastructure
Until well into the 20th century, Pointvillers was mainly a village characterized by agriculture (arable farming, fruit growing, viticulture and cattle breeding) and forestry. In addition, there are now some local small businesses. In the meantime, the village has also turned into a residential community. Many workers are commuters who work in the larger towns in the area.
The village is off the main thoroughfares, but is easily accessible from the main road N83, which leads from Besançon to Lons-le-Saunier . Another road connection exists with Montfort.
