Le Val is a commune of 245 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in the Doubs department in the region of Bourgogne Franche-Comté . It belongs to the canton of Saint-Vit in the arrondissement of Besançon . It was created as Commune nouvelle with effect from January 1, 2017, when the previous communities of Montfort and Pointvillers were merged by a decree of November 23, 2016. Pointvillers is the main town (chief lieu). Le Val borders Goux-sous-Landet to the northeast, Cussey-sur-Lison to the east, Échay and Bartherans to the southeast, Ronchaux to the south, Samson and Brères to the southwest and Pessans to the northwest .
