Huanne-Montmartin is a French commune with a population of 87 (as at 1st January 2017) in the Doubs department in the region of Bourgogne Franche-Comté . It belongs to the canton of Baume-les-Dames in the arrondissement of Besançon .

geography

Huanne-Montmartin is located at 310  m , nine kilometers north of Baume-les-Dames and about 32 kilometers northeast of the city of Besançon (as the crow flies). The village extends in the undulating landscape between the river valleys of Doubs in the south and Ognon in the north, in a basin in the headwaters of the Crenu at the eastern foot of the Montmartin plateau.

The area of ​​the 3.43 km² municipal area covers a section of the undulating landscape between the Doubs and Ognon. The eastern part of the area is occupied by the valley basin of the Crenu , which lies at an average of 300 m and in which various spring streams unite. It is mainly made up of arable and meadow land. Huanne-Montmartin is located at the upper entrance into a valley through which the Crenu flows west to the Ognon. This valley is flanked to the north by Mont Adam (up to 400 m) and to the south by the Montmartin promontory. In the south-west, the municipal area includes the high plateau of Montmartin, on which the highest elevation of Huanne-Montmartin is reached at 415 m.

The community consists of the two districts of Huanne ( 310  m ) in the valley basin of the Crenu and Montmartin ( 390  m ) on the protrusion south of the Crenu valley. Neighboring communities of Huanne-Montmartin are Gouhelans in the north, Romain and Mésandans in the east, Trouvans and Tournans in the south and Puessans in the west.

history

The high plateau of Montmartin has been inhabited since the 5th century. Montmartin Castle was built in the 12th century and was the center of a rulership. It was in 1479 when the troops of King Louis XI marched in. destroyed in Franche-Comté, then rebuilt and devastated again in 1637 during the Thirty Years War . Huanne had been a parish since the 13th century. Together with Franche-Comté, Montmartin and Huanne finally came to France with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678. In 1810 the previously independent parishes of Huanne and Montmartin merged to form today's dual parish. Today, Huanne-Montmartin is part of the Deux Vallées Vertes municipal association .

Saint-Jean church

The Saint-Jean church in Huanne dates from the 13th century. The portal has been preserved from this period, while the Gothic choir was rebuilt in the 16th century. A comprehensive restoration and enlargement of the church was carried out in the middle of the 19th century. Near Montmartin are the ruins of the former castle.

With 87 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017), Huanne-Montmartin is one of the smallest communities in the Doubs department. After the population had decreased markedly in the first half of the 20th century (247 people were counted in 1896), there has been significant population growth again since the beginning of the 1980s. Since then the number of inhabitants has doubled.

Economy and Infrastructure

Until well into the 20th century, Huanne-Montmartin was a village dominated by agriculture (arable farming, fruit growing and cattle breeding). In addition, there are now some local small businesses. In the meantime, the village has also turned into a residential community. Many workers are therefore commuters who work in the larger towns in the area. Huanne is the location of an amusement park with swimming pool, mini golf course and camping site.

The place is off the main thoroughfares on a department road that leads from Clerval to Avilley . The closest connection to the A36 motorway is around nine kilometers away. Further road connections exist with Gouhelans, Tournans and Trouvans.
