Beure is a French commune with 1,349 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in Doubs in the region Bourgogne Franche-Comté .

geography

Beure is located at 250  m , about four kilometers southwest of the city of Besançon (as the crow flies). The village extends on the western edge of the Jura , slightly set back on the left, southern side of the Doubs at the mouth of a short side valley, surrounded by the heights of the Jura ridge in the south, Fort de Planoise in the west and Fort de Rosemont in the north .

The area of the 3.99 km² large municipality covers a section of the Doubstal. The western and northern borders run along the Doubs, which flows here through an approximately 1 kilometer wide valley to the southwest. From the course of the river, the municipal area extends southwards over the flat valley lowlands to the adjacent heights, namely Côte d'Arguel (up to 460 m) in the south and Mont des Buis in the east, on which the highest elevation of Beure is reached at 480 m. The steep slopes are criss-crossed by ledges and prominent ledges in various places. In geological and tectonic terms, the heights belong to the system of the Jura ridge. The lower section of the Ruisseau des Mercureaux also belongs to the municipality.

Neighboring towns of Beure are Besançon in the north, Fontain in the east, Arguel , Pugey and Larnod in the south and Avanne-Aveney in the west.

history

Various archaeological finds and the remains of a Roman traffic route indicate that the municipality of Beure was settled very early. The place name is derived from the Old High German word bur (small house, building, apartment). In the Middle Ages, Beure was under the rule of Arguel. Since the 15th century it was the site of a blast furnace in which the iron ore mined in the area was processed. In addition, viticulture was practiced for a long time, with the parcels belonging to the citizens and the chapter of Besançon. Together with Franche-Comté , Beure finally came to France with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678.

With 1,349 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017), Beure is one of the smaller communities in the Doubs department. Steady population growth has been registered since the beginning of the 20th century. After a period of stagnation since the 1970s, growth has been recorded again in recent years thanks to the proximity to Besançon.

Economy and Infrastructure

For a long time, Beure was a village dominated by agriculture (arable farming, fruit growing and cattle breeding). Industry soon settled along the Doubs. Today, Beure is home to companies specializing in precision mechanics (manufacture of suspension systems), plastics processing and wood processing. There are also numerous retail establishments. In the meantime, the village has also turned into a residential community. Many workers are therefore commuters who go to work in the Besançon agglomeration.

The village is well developed in terms of traffic. The main access is from the main road N273, the Besançon bypass road, which ends in Beure on the main road N83 (Besançon - Lons-le-Saunier). A continuation of this four-lane bypass to the east to the N57 to Pontarlier is under construction. The closest connection to the A36 motorway is around twelve kilometers away. Other road links exist with Avanne-Aveney and Cléron .
