Audeux is a French municipality with 433 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in Doubs in the region Bourgogne Franche-Comté . It belongs to the canton of Besançon-2 in the arrondissement of Besançon .

geography

Audeux is located at an altitude of 240  m above sea level, about twelve kilometers west of the city of Besançon (as the crow flies). The village extends in the gently undulating landscape between the rivers of Doubs in the south and Ognon in the north, slightly elevated on the western edge of the valley basin of the Ruisseau de Noironte.

The area of ​​the 1.75 km² large municipality covers a section south of the Ognon. The eastern border runs along the Ruisseau de Noironte, which flows northwards through an approximately one kilometer wide valley floor and provides drainage to the Ognon. From the course of the river the community area extends westward into the hollow of Audeux and up to the adjacent hills. The area is mainly made up of arable and meadow land; there are only small areas of forest. At 285 m, the highest point of Audeux is reached on the plateau west of the village.

Neighboring municipalities of Audeux are Noironte in the north, Champagney in the east, Mazerolles-le-Salin in the south and Placey in the west.

history

Audeux was first mentioned in a document in the 12th century. The place name is probably derived from the Latin word aquaeductus (water pipe in the meaning of brook ). In the Middle Ages, the village formed its own rule. Together with Franche-Comté , Audeux finally came to France with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678. Today Audeux is a member of the Grand Besançon Municipal Association .

The Saint-Martin church was built in the 18th century in the shape of a cross and is richly decorated .

The castle, which stands on the site of the medieval manor house, also dates from the 18th century.

With 433 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) Audeux is one of the small communities in the Doubs department. After the population in the first half of the 20th century had always been in the range between 95 and 130 people, a strong population growth has been recorded since the beginning of the 1960s. In particular during the 1970s, the population doubled.

Economy and Infrastructure

Until well into the 20th century, Audeux was a village dominated by agriculture (arable farming, fruit growing and cattle breeding). In addition, there are now some local small businesses. In the meantime, the village has also turned into a residential community. Many workers are commuters who work in the Besançon agglomeration.

The village is well developed in terms of traffic. It is located near the main D67 road from Besançon to Gray . The closest connection to the A36 motorway is around eight kilometers away. Other road connections exist with Pouilley-les-Vignes , Noironte and Mazerolles-le-Salin.
