Franey is a French municipality with 272 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in Doubs in the region Bourgogne Franche-Comté .
geography
Franey is located at an altitude of 212 m above sea level, about 16 kilometers west of the city of Besançon (as the crow flies). The village extends in the gently undulating landscape between the rivers of Doubs in the south and Ognon in the north, on the western edge of the broad basin of the Ruisseau de Recologne.
The area of the 3.38 km² large municipal area includes a section south of the Ognon. The area is slightly undulating and consists mainly of arable and meadow land, there are also some smaller forest areas. From south to north it is crossed by the valley of the Ruisseau de Recologne (also known as Ruisseau du Breuil), which is more than a kilometer wide and provides drainage to the Ognon. The valley is flanked on both sides by hills, which usually do not tower above the floodplain by more than 50 meters. At 287 m, the highest point in Franey is reached on the plateau-like hill west of the village.
Franey's neighboring communities are Ruffey-le-Château and Recologne in the north, Placey in the east, Lavernay in the south and Burgille in the west.
history
Since the early 15th century, Franey was under the rule of the Abbey of Saint-Paul of Besançon, which had a mansion built here. Together with Franche-Comté , the village finally came to France with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678.

Since then, the population has quadrupled.
Economy and Infrastructure
Franey was a village dominated by agriculture (arable farming, fruit growing and cattle breeding) well into the 20th century. In addition, there are now some local small businesses. In the meantime, the village has also turned into a residential community. Many workers are commuters who work in the Besançon agglomeration.
The village is located off the major thoroughfares on a department road that leads from Saint-Vit to Recologne. The closest connection to the A36 motorway is around twelve kilometers away. Another road connection is with Burgille.
