View of Vorges-les-Pins

Vorges-les-Pins is located at 322  m , about eleven kilometers southwest of the city of Besançon (as the crow flies). The former street row village extends near the western edge of the Jura , in a hollow on the ridge between the valleys of Doubs in the north and Loue in the south.

The area of the 4.76 km² large municipality covers a section of the western French Jura. The main part of the area is taken up by the basin of Vorges-les-Pins, which drains north to the Doubs. This hollow is flanked by two elongated hills. In the northwest the area extends down to the Doubstal. To the southeast, the municipal area extends over the ridge of the Gros Bois to the Loue, which flows here between the extreme ridges of the Jura to the southwest. At 480 m, the highest point of Vorges-les-Pins is reached on the Gros Bois ridge.

Neighboring municipalities of Vorges-les-Pins are Thoraise in the north, Busy and Chenecey-Buillon in the east, Chouzelot and Quingey in the south and Boussières in the west.

history

The place name goes back to the Gallic word worrike (willow). In the Middle Ages, Vorges first belonged to the dominion of Thoraise. In 1384, after a dispute between the lords of Montferrand and Abbans-Dessus, Jean de Châlon came to power. Together with Franche-Comté , the village came to France with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678. In order to avoid confusion with other municipalities of the same name, Vorges was officially renamed Vorges-les-Pins in 1923.

Since then, the number of inhabitants has more than tripled.

Economy and Infrastructure

Until well into the 20th century, Vorges-les-Pins was a village dominated by agriculture (arable farming, fruit growing and dairy farming). In addition, there are now some local small businesses. In the meantime, the village has also turned into a residential community. Many workers are commuters who work in the larger towns in the area.

The village is off the main thoroughfares on a departmental road that leads from Boussières to Larnod.
