Mairie Épeugney

Épeugney is a French municipality with 586 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in Doubs in the region Bourgogne Franche-Comté .

geography

Épeugney is located at 465  m , about 13 kilometers south of the city of Besançon (beeline). The village extends in the Jura , on a plateau at the foot of the Croix des Echaulles, north of the Loue valley .

The area of the 13.95 km² municipal area covers a section of the stratified landscape of the western French Jura. The main part of the area is occupied by a plateau, which is on average 460 m. In the Épeugney area, the area is predominantly made up of meadows, but to the north the municipal soil extends into the extensive forest of the Grand Bois . The entire plateau has no surface watercourses because the rainwater seeps into the karstified subsoil. In the south, the plateau is bounded by a stratum, namely by the elongated height of the Croix des Echaulles (at 525 m, the highest elevation in Épeugney) and the high plateau of Malbrans. In between, a valley furrow leads over to the deeply cut valley of the Loue.

Neighboring municipalities of Épeugney are Pugey in the north, Montrond-le-Château and Scey-Maisières in the east, Cademène and Rurey in the south and Chenecey-Buillon in the west.

history

In the Middle Ages, Épeugney belonged to the Scey domain. Together with Franche-Comté , the village came to France with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678.

Economy and Infrastructure

Until well into the 20th century, Épeugney was predominantly a village characterized by agriculture (arable farming, fruit growing and cattle breeding) and forestry. In addition, there are now some small businesses, including wood processing companies and other craft businesses. In the meantime, the village has also turned into a residential community. Many workers are commuters who work in the larger towns in the area.

The village is located off the major thoroughfares on the D473 departmental road, which leads from Besançon to Levier . Other road connections exist with Quingey , Chenecey-Buillon and Montrond-le-Château.
