Mairie Anancey

Amancey is a French municipality with 687 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in Doubs in the region Bourgogne Franche-Comté and capital of the canton of Ornans in the arrondissement of Besancon .

geography

Amancey is located at 584  m above sea level, about ten kilometers southwest of Ornans and 22 kilometers south of the city of Besançon (as the crow flies). The cluster village extends in the Jura , on the Amancey plateau, which extends between the valleys of Loue and Lison .

The area of the 13.78 km² municipal area covers a section of the French Jura. The main part of the area is taken up by the Amancey plateau, which lies at an average of 600 m and consists mainly of meadows, partly also of forest. The plateau has no above-ground watercourses because the rainwater seeps into the karstified subsoil. Towards the south the plateau rises slightly, so that at the foot of the slope below Déservillers the highest point of Amancey is reached at 636 m. The western boundary lies above the steep drop to the deeply cut erosion valley of the Ruisseau de Malans (tributary of the Loue). To the east, the municipal area extends into the forest area of the Grand Bois . The Ruisseau de Noirvaux rises here and also sinks quickly into the deep valley of Noirvaux, the slopes of which are crowned by striking limestone walls on the upper edge.

Neighboring municipalities of Amancey are Fertans in the north, Flagey and Bolandoz in the east, Déservillers in the south and Éternoz and Malans in the west.

history

The municipality of Amancey was settled very early. The tumulus of Château-Murger is evidence of prehistoric times , while the remains of an estate and a traffic route have been found from the Gallo-Roman period.

Amancey was first mentioned in a document in the 12th century. At that time it belonged to the parish of Fertans. In the Middle Ages, the Knights Templar founded a hospital here. Together with Franche-Comté, the village came to France with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678. The area changed in 1972 when the previously independent communities of Amondans, Cléron, Fertans and Malans merged with Amancey to form one large community. However, this did not last long, as Amondans was separated again in 1978, while Cléron, Fertans and Malans regained their independence in 1980. Today Amancey, as the most populous municipality on the plateau, is the administrative seat of the Communauté de communes Amancey-Loue-Lison and the Pays de Loue-Lison.

Attractions

The parish church of Saint-Jean-Baptiste was built in 1805 and has rich furnishings , including a choir stalls from the 18th century (by the Paulans in Ornans) and a painted wooden statue of Christ from the 17th century.

In the old town center, numerous farmhouses in the characteristic style of the Haut-Doubs from the 17th to 19th centuries have been preserved.

With 687 inhabitants (January 1, 2017) Amancey is one of the small communities in the Doubs department. After the population had decreased significantly in the first half of the 20th century (697 people were counted in 1886), the population has continued to grow steadily since the mid-1970s.

Economy and Infrastructure

Until well into the 20th century, Amancey was a village dominated by agriculture (arable farming, fruit growing and cattle breeding) and forestry. In addition, there are now some small and medium-sized businesses, including in the metal and wood processing industries and various retail businesses. In the meantime, the village has also turned into a residential community. Many workers are commuters who work in the larger towns in the area.

The village is located off the major thoroughfares on the D473 departmental road, which leads from Besançon to Levier . Other road connections exist with Flagey, Bolandoz, Éternoz and Malans.
