Christoph Franck (born October 26, 1642 in Nuremberg , † February 11, 1704 in Kiel ) was a German Protestant theologian.

Life

Born as the son of the council secretary of the imperial city Wolfgang Franck and his wife Apollonia Kegst († May 24, 1663 in Nuremberg), he received a thorough education when he was still young and came to the University of Altdorf . In 1661 he moved to the University of Rinteln , came back to Nuremberg in 1663 and made an educational trip from there that took him to the University of Jena , the University of Wittenberg , the University of Leipzig and the University of Helmstedt .

April 22 In 1665 he was Duke Christian Albrecht of Schleswig-Holstein-Gottorf as a professor of logic and metaphysics at the newly constructed University of Kiel appointed. After a short further trip abroad, which led through the most important cities of the Roman Empire, he found himself in Kiel and attended the inauguration of the Kiel University on October 5, 1665.

In 1666 he was also given an extraordinary theological professorship, he became a full professor in 1675 and finally professor primarius in 1694 at the theological faculty and procurator of the university. In 1701, Duke Friedrich IV of Schleswig-Holstein-Gottorf appointed him to the senior consistory councilor at the extended senior consistory. His writings were also respected by his opponents, he rejected appointments to Helmstedt, Altdorf and Jena. He died of complications from scurvy at the age of 61 and was buried on February 24, 1704 in the St. Nicolaikirche in Kiel .

Franck married Catharina († 1693) on September 3, 1666, the daughter of the doctor of medicine and ducal personal physician Matthias Clausen and sister of Johann and Bernhard von Clausenheim . The 27-year marriage resulted in three sons. Bernhard Matthias Franck († 1701) became a doctor of medicine and professor at the University of Kiel, Wolfgang Christoph Franck became a theologian in Kiel and Paul Franck died on the day of his birth.
