Corsia papuana is a loose leaf green plant type from the family of Corsiaceae .

features

Like all species of the genus also has Corsia papuana the photosynthesis abandoned and therefore forms no chlorophyll more. Instead, it lives myco-heterotrophically on a fungus .

Corsia papuana is a perennial plant that only grows above ground during flowering. A cylindrical and dark purple red stalk up to 25 centimeters long sprouts from the rhizome . The foliage is 10 to 15 millimeters long and three-veined. The bracts are the same as the leaves.

The upright individual flowers are terminal and stand on flower stalks that are 2 to 4.5 inches long, cylindrical, narrowly grooved and smooth. Of the six petals (three tepals each in two petal circles), five are linear, creamy yellow, tinged with purple towards the rounded tip, 10 to 12 millimeters long, 0.5 millimeters wide, with a short single nerve at the base and a central rib , hairless.

The top sixth, the so-called labellum , is creamy-yellow with a dark vein on the outside, broadly elliptical to almost round and greatly enlarged (12 to 20 millimeters long and 10 to 14 millimeters wide), with nine side ribs on each side from the central rib. His approach is very heart-shaped, the lobes are rounded and up to the papillae on the handle Elan sentence it is smooth. The callus is horseshoe-shaped, in front of it there are 19 other, short, finely haired calluses.

At the base, the labellum is directly fused with the approximately 0.7 millimeter long and smooth gynostemium . Like the anthers, the free stamens are 1 millimeter long. The smooth ovary is 8 to 12 millimeters long, the light brown capsule fruit 10 to 17 millimeters.

Distribution area

Corsia papuana was found only once in New Guinea in 1935 at an altitude of 1070 m.

Systematics

Corsia papuana was first described by Pieter van Royen in 1972 and is related to Corsia brassii . Like this, it is placed in the sessilis section , since the labellum is directly fused with the gynostemium.
