RFF route to Paris

The railway Dole Belfort is a standard gauge railway line in the French department of Jura , Doubs , Haute-Saône and Territoire de Belfort in the region Bourgogne Franche-Comté and is owned by the state-owned rail infrastructure company Réseau Ferré de France (RFF).

overview

The railway line is particularly important as the main connection of the Franche-Comté region, which runs through parts of all four departments and connects them with Besançon, the administrative center of the region. The A36 motorway and the LGV Rhin-Rhône, which is under construction, also follow a similar route .

The passenger trains are operated by the national railway company SNCF. Transport express régional (TER) trains run on the route for regional transport and TGV for long-distance transport .

history

The railway line continues from Dole, the line from (Paris–) Dijon , which opened in 1855 , and was opened in two stages. The Dole – Besançon section was opened on April 7, 1856, the Besançon – Montbéliard – Belfort section followed on June 1, 1858. The company that planned the construction of the Dijon – Besançon – Belfort line worked with the predecessor companies of the 19. Compagnie Paris-Lyon-Méditerranée (PLM) were reorganized in July 1857 and have been part of the latter since it was founded. With the nationalization of the PLM, the route became the property of SNCF on January 1, 1938 . It has been owned by the RFF since the rail infrastructure was outsourced from SNCF in February 1997.

Branch lines

Two cross-border branches to Switzerland were created early on; the Besançon – Le Locle line, opened in 1884, connects to the line to La Chaux-de-Fonds in the former Jura neuchâtelois (JN).

The railway Montbéliard Morvillars PLM led from the opening in 1868 of Delle , the continuation Delle- Boncourt - Porrentruy was built in 1872 by the Chemin de fer Porrentruy-Delle opened (PD) and found 1,877 connection to the rest of the Swiss railway network. The Compagnie de l'Est (EST) opened the Belfort – Morvillars (–Delle) line in 1877 . Due to the parallel traffic to Delle, the SNCF ceased passenger traffic on the Montbéliard – Morvillars route in 1938; freight traffic was gradually ceased between 1969 and 1993; the route is no longer passable and partially dismantled.

Current

With the commissioning of the LGV Rhin-Rhône at the end of 2011, the long-distance traffic handled by TGV now uses the new route. The two subway stations Besançon TGV and Belfort-Montbéliard TGV on the LGV are well away from the town centers, in the second case the TGV station is accessed from the center of Belfort via the reactivated Belfort – Delle railway line.
