The Jura [ ʒyʀa ] (officially Département du Jura ) is the French department with the atomic number 39. It is in the east of the country in the Region Bourgogne Franche-Comté on the border between France and Switzerland and is named after the mountain Jura named .

geography

The department is bordered by the Haute-Saône department to the north, the Doubs department and the Swiss canton of Vaud to the east, the Ain department to the south, the Saône-et-Loire department to the west and the Côte-d department to the north-west 'Or .

history

The department was formed on March 4, 1790 from parts of the Free County of Burgundy .

From 1960 to 2015 it was part of the Franche-Comté region , which in 2016 became part of the Bourgogne-Franche-Comté region.
