The French Haute-Corse department [ otkɔʀs ] ( "Upper Corsica", Corsican Corsica Suprana or Cismonte ) was from 1976 to 2017 one of the two Corsican departments . It was located in the north of the Mediterranean island of Corsica and was designated as No. 20b in the alphabetical order of the departments. The department is still used for statistical purposes.

history

It was created on September 15, 1975 when the island of Corsica was divided into two departments. Since the license plate number 20 corresponded to the former entire department of Corse , the department of Haute-Corse was assigned the license plate number 2B and the department Corse-du-Sud the number plate 2A . The Corsican license plates therefore do not correspond to the typology of the French departments. The department's postcode prefix 20 was retained, but the third digit was set to 2 (and in the Corse-du-Sud department to 1), which resulted in some changes. As a result of Corsica's change of status, the departments were abolished on January 1, 2018 and their administration was merged with that of the region.

geography

In the northeast of the department lies the Cap Corse , a peninsula.
