The de l'Essonne [ ɛsɔn ] is the French department with the atomic number 91. It is in the Region Ile-de-France in the Greater Paris and is named after the river Essonne named.
geography
The department of Essonne borders in the north with the departments Hauts-de-Seine and Val-de-Marne , in the east with the department Seine-et-Marne , in the south with the department Loiret , in the southwest with the department Eure-et-Loir as well in the northwest to the Yvelines department .
The north of the department belongs to the Paris agglomeration and is heavily urbanized. The south has retained a more rural character. The Seine flows through the département in the northeast, the eponymous Essonne reaches the département from the south and flows into the Seine in Corbeil-Essonnes . The southeast of the department is part of the Gâtinais Français Regional Nature Park .
history
The Essonne department was formed on January 1, 1968 on the basis of the law of July 10, 1964 on the reorganization of the departments in the region around Paris from the southern part of the old department of Seine-et-Oise .
In 1969 the municipalities of Châteaufort and Toussus-le-Noble were separated from the Essonne department and joined to the Yvelines department .
After the establishment of the department, the city of Corbeil-Essonnes , a former sub-prefecture of the Seine-et-Oise department , was the provisional seat of the prefecture of the department until the building of the new prefecture in Évry was completed.
