history

The community owes its name to a medieval castle (French: Château fort). Lords of Châteaufort were Gui de Montlhéry in the 11th century and later his son Hugues de Montlhéry , the Grand Seneschal of France , King Louis VI. took away the property. In 1480, King Louis XI. the fief of Ludwig von Brabant from, in 1529 King Francis I gave it to Jean de la Barre. In 1616 Châteaufort went to the House of Guise , on June 27, 1650 to the family of Charles d'Escoubleau, Marquis de Sourdis.

Châteaufort later belonged to three different departments: in 1790 it became part of the newly created department of Seine-et-Oise , in 1964 (with effect from January 1, 1968) when Seine-et-Oise was divided up, it was added to the department of Essonne ; just a few months later, in November 1969, Châteaufort came to the Yvelines department.

On August 20, 1913, Adolphe Pégoud managed the first parachute jump over the airfield of Châteaufort .
