Le Chesnay Rocquencourt is a French municipality with 31,164 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in the department of Yvelines in the region Ile-de-France and belongs to Arrondissement Versailles and Canton Le Chesnay .

It was created as Commune nouvelle on January 1, 2019 through the merger of the previous municipalities of Le Chesnay and Rocquencourt on the basis of a decree of November 29, 2018. The administrative headquarters are in Le Chesnay.

geography

Le Chesnay-Rocquencourt is located about 50 kilometers west-northwest of Paris and is surrounded by the neighboring communities Louveciennes in the north and northwest, La Celle-Saint-Cloud in the north, Vaucresson in the east and northeast, Versailles in the south and Bailly in the west.

The national route 184 runs through the municipality and the A13 car route along the northern edge of the municipality.

history

In 1815 there was a battle between Prussian hussars and French dragoons at Rocquencourt. The French troops prevailed. At Rocquencourt there is a memorial to this war event. In the municipality (in the district of Rocquencourt) there was once the Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers Europe .
