Villepreux is a French municipality with 10,947 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in the department of Yvelines in the region Ile-de-France .

The city of Villepreux is located twelve kilometers from Versailles . The municipality is predominantly rural. Around 15% of the municipality is populated.
At its heart, Villepreux is a historic village, built around the 18th century castle, built by the Francini family. In the south , direction SNCF - Station Villepreux is a settlement of houses in the 1970s, often refurbished in recent years.
history
The origins of Villepreux go back a long way. According to an explanation, the name itself is Gallo-Roman and comes from villa pirorum , the name of a large estate in what is now the municipality. According to other explanations, the name comes from villa porcorum , a pig farm. Other sources speak of villapeureur , i.e. a leper colony . The first recorded mention of Villepreux comes from the year 856.
