Les Clayes-sous-Bois is a commune in France .
geography
The town is located eleven kilometers west from Versailles in the department of Yvelines in the region Ile-de-France . It belongs to the Arrondissement of Versailles and the Canton of Plaisir . A large part of the Bois de Saint-Joint is in the municipality.

Les Clayes-sous-Bois has 17,636 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017). The inhabitants are called Clétiens or Clétois .
history
In 1118 the Château was built by Simon de Cloyes in the immediate vicinity of the church that was built to the west around 1100.
In 1910 a serious railway accident occurred near the town in which 20 people died.

Villepreux-Les Clayes station is on the Saint-Cyr – Surdon railway line in the municipality of Les Clayes-sous-Bois .
