Buc is a French municipality with 5821 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in the department of Yvelines in the region Ile-de-France . The inhabitants are called Bucois .
geography
The municipality is located 21 kilometers southwest of Paris .
The historical center and part of the municipality is located in the Bièvre Valley at an altitude of about 100 m. Most of the residential areas are on the Saclay plateau 50 m higher. The neighboring communities are Versailles in the north, Jouy-en-Josas in the north - east, Les Loges-en-Josas in the south-east, Toussus-le-Noble in the south, and Châteaufort in the south-west and Guyancourt in the west.
history
The name "Buc" comes from the Latin buscum, which means boxwood.
- The area was annexed to Versailles in 1660 and was used as a hunting area by Louis XIV .
- 1684-1686: Construction of the Buc aqueduct .
- 1880: The Haut-Buc Fort was built

Attractions
- Saint-Jean-Baptiste Church: built in the 12th century, Gothic style, classified as a monument historique .
- Aqueduct of Buc : built by Louvois in 1686 to supply the gardens of the Versailles Palace with water. It has 19 arches, is 21 m high and 580 m long. Now out of service, it was classified as a Monument historique in 1952.
- Le Haut-Buc Palace: The old palace was part of the Versailles park and was used by Louis XIV to accommodate one of his children. It was built in 1740 on the orders of Louis XV. destroyed. The present castle was built in 1864 and today belongs to the municipality.
- Fort du Haut-Buc: this fortress is part of the protective ring around Paris, it is currently not in use.
- In the Gonards' forest near the aqueduct, there was the Louis XIV oak, believed to be 500 years old. It survived the 1999 storm, but then collapsed in 2004.
Economy and Infrastructure
Around 250 companies are based in Buc. The parish also hosts the Lycée franco-allemand .
The municipality is crossed by the D 938 (Versailles - Saint-Rémy-lès-Chevreuse) in a north-south direction. The municipality does not have its own train station; the nearest train stations are Versailles-Chantiers and Petit Jouy-Les Loges. There is a bus route to Versailles that takes 15–20 minutes.
