Guyancourt Airfield

There used to be an airfield between Guyancourt and Voisins-le-Bretonneux . The Aérodrome de Guyancourt opened in October 1930. The initiator was the Caudron company , which was taken over by Renault in 1933 due to economic difficulties . From then on, the airfield served as the factory airfield of Caudron-Renault. Louis Renault equipped the aircraft with their own engines.

Charles Fauvel carried out flight tests with a flying wing here in 1933 and in November 1934 the world record pilot Hélène Boucher was killed in an air accident here.

During the German occupation in World War II , the airfield was used by the German Air Force . Until July / August 1944, when, among other things, the 4th squadron of reconnaissance group 123 (4th (F) / 123), there were also task forces here , mostly only fighter aircraft school groups. Between the beginning of June 1941 and November 1942, the 2nd squadron of Fighter Pilot School 5 (2./JFS 5). From April to the end of August 1943, the 2nd squadron of Jagdgeschwader 105 (2./JG 105) was here and then the hunting instructor review group until December 1943 .

After the war, the airfield was used for civilian purposes again and from then on served for air sports . The airfield was closed on October 1, 1989 for safety reasons and the aviation clubs had to move to Étampes-Mondésir . Today, the Villaroy and Europe districts are located on the site of the former airfield.

Scenes for a number of feature films were filmed at the airfield, including " Lindbergh - My flight over the ocean ".
