Magny-les-Hameaux is a French municipality with 9327 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in the department of Yvelines in the region Ile-de-France . It belongs to the Arrondissement of Rambouillet and the Canton of Maurepas .

geography

Magny-les-Hameaux is located about 30 kilometers southwest of Paris and about 12 kilometers south-southwest of Versailles on the small river Mérantaise . The municipality is part of the Haute Vallée de Chevreuse Regional Nature Park . Magny-les-Hameaux is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Montigny-le-Bretonneux , Voisins-le-Bretonneux and Guyancourt in the north, Châteaufort in the east, Milon-la-Chapelle and Saint-Rémy-lès-Chevreuse in the south, Saint-Lambert -des-Bois to the west and Trappes to the northwest.

The districts of Magny-les-Hameaux are: Magny, Cressely, Quartier de l'Hôtel de Ville, Croix aux Buis, Buisson, Buloyer, Romainville, Brouessy and Villeneuve, Gomberville and Bois des Roches.

history

The place Magny appears as Malliacum in the books from the 13th century. The history of the place is connected with the abbey Port Royal des Champs , which today only survives as a ruin , which was founded in 1204 and dissolved in 1709 or destroyed by royal orders in 1710. The abbey was one of the most important places of Jansenism .
