Sonchamp is a French commune with 1,641 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in the department of Yvelines in the region Ile-de-France . It belongs to the arrondissement of Rambouillet and the canton of Rambouillet (until 2015: canton of Saint-Arnoult-en-Yvelines ). The inhabitants are called Sonchampois .
geography
Sonchamp is located about 30 kilometers southwest of Paris and five kilometers south-southeast of Rambouillet . This is where the Rémarde rises . The municipality is part of the Haute Vallée de Chevreuse Regional Nature Park . Sonchamp is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Rambouillet in the north, Clairefontaine-en-Yvelines in the northeast, Saint-Arnoult-en-Yvelines in the east, Ponthévrard and Saint-Martin-de-Bréthencourt in the southeast, Ablis in the south and Orcemont in the west.
On the western edge of the municipality the Route nationale 10 leads and on the southern edge the Autoroute A11 .
