Dampierre-en-Yvelines is a French commune with 1,037 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in the department of Yvelines in the region Ile-de-France . It belongs to the Arrondissement of Rambouillet and the Canton of Maurepas . The municipality is located in the Haute Vallée de Chevreuse Regional Nature Park ( French Parc naturel régional de la Haute Vallée de Chevreuse ), in the valley of the river Yvette .
Neighboring municipalities of Dampierre are: Mesnil-Saint-Denis in the north, Saint-Forget in the northeast and east, Choisel in the southeast, Senlisse in the south, Les Essarts-le-Roi in the west and Lévis-Saint-Nom in the northwest.
history
In 1974 Maincourt-sur-Yvette was incorporated into Dampierre.
Attractions
- The Dampierre castle was from 1675 to 1683 by Charles Honoré d'Albert , the Duke of Chevreuse , led by Jules Hardouin-Mansart built. The castle park was laid out by André Le Nôtre in the 18th century. In the concert hall is the Âge d'Or fresco by Jean-Auguste-Dominique Ingres .
- The Saint-Pierre church dates from the 13th century.
- The Maison de Fer is the prototype of a small demountable house that was constructed for the world exhibition of 1889.
