Le Mesnil-Saint-Denis is a French municipality with 6789 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in the department of Yvelines in the region Ile-de-France . It belongs to the Arrondissement of Rambouillet and the Canton of Maurepas . The inhabitants are called Mesnilois .
geography
Le Mesnil-Saint-Denis is located about 28 kilometers southwest of Paris . The municipality is part of the Haute Vallée de Chevreuse Regional Nature Park . Le Mesnil-Saint-Denis is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Élancourt in the north, Trappes in the northeast, Saint-Lambert in the east, Saint-Forget in the southeast, Dampierre-en-Yvelines in the south, Lévis-Saint-Nom in the southwest, and Coignières in the west and La Verrière to the northwest.
history
The area was given by Pippin the Younger to the Abbey of Saint-Denis as a fief. The place Le Mesnil first appears under this name in the 12th century.
