history
The place name was first mentioned in 1286 as Vultmeis , which corresponds to the meaning of 'wolves'. It was later also known as Wultmeins and Vulpes .
Street names, partially preserved tunnels and tools found in them bear witness to centuries-old mining, smelting and iron processing traditions in the town. From the 14th to the 16th century, scraped in the mud by iron (first designation of a hammer on Schlick Lauterbach 1352), the sun stone according to gold and silver .
In addition to the early local ironmongery industry , the iron was traded on by peddlers . When the resources were exhausted in the 16th century, they switched to blacksmithing. As a result, Fulpmes remained an industrial center until the 19th century. In the 18th century trading companies were established here that exported to Russia and England.
The Stubai tool industry with its well-known Stubai brand is still based in Fulpmes today. There has been a corresponding technical school here since August 22, 1897 (since 1969, the Higher Technical College in Fulpmes), which was able to maintain and expand the high quality standards.
The close connection with the iron processing industry is also evident in the town's coat of arms. In a silver shield, it shows a red bar drawn obliquely to the left, overlaid by a black blacksmith anvil in its natural form. The difficulties that arose for the blacksmith's trade in the course of industrialization were artistically processed in the film Aufruhr der Herzen (1944), in which Fulpmes plays a central role.
In the early years of the 20th century, the Catholic workers' association was active in Fulpmes .
The community is also known from a tourist point of view, as the Schlick ski area is accessed from here.
Since 1904 the place has been connected to Innsbruck by an electric local railway ( Stubaitalbahn ) .
With a government resolution of March 7th and effective from May 28th 2017, Fulpmes was elevated to a market town.

dialect

Party politics
The political landscape in Fulpmes is mainly shaped by the tourist and industrial development. While the industry in Fulpmes (e.g. with its Stubai brand ) has played a dominant role for centuries, tourism began its rapid development in the 1960s. Today Fulpmes has around 300,000 overnight stays a year. Politicians are therefore increasingly concerned with tourist infrastructure. But the ironmongery industry is also having an impact on the political landscape, especially since the Chamber of Commerce began to systematically recruit mainly Turkish guest workers in the 1960s and 1970s . In the 1990s, the Balkan War also resulted in an influx of Bosnian refugees in particular . Of the 4000 inhabitants of Fulpmes, around 700 do not have Austrian citizenship , but around 500 foreigners have been naturalized in the last few decades. Due to its large Muslim minority, Fulpmes not only has Christian churches, but has also had a mosque for more than a decade . In the 2004 municipal council election campaign, all parties with the exception of the FPÖ spoke out in favor of expanding this mosque.
In the past 50 years, the ÖVP has always played the dominant role in Fulpmes, the SPÖ has seldom been able to approach the 20 percent mark. In the 1990s there was a sharp increase in the FPÖ, but with the elections after 2000, the FPÖ steadily lost votes. The Greens are back in since the local elections in 2010 local council represented.
