The originally rural character only comes to the fore in the elongated, partly clustered village-like village of the town center. There are also some listed farms that are worth seeing .

history

The first settlement in the Götzens area is not exactly known. However, based on finds and the nearby Roman military camp Veldidena (today within the city limits of Innsbruck ), it can be assumed that Götzens was already settled in Roman times. The first documentary mention dates from the years 1078-1091 with the name Gecinis . Vellenberg Castle (mentioned in a document in 1232; several changes of ownership in the 13th century) was located in the local area, which, along with Matrei Castle, was one of the most important bases. Götzens is mentioned in documents in 1313 as an independent tax and land municipality. The Geroldsbach, flowing south of Götzens, flooded the place several times (1575, 1748, 1750, 1781, 1782). In order to avoid further destruction, a protective wall was built after the last flood. In the 17th century, Vellenberg Castle was finally destroyed after two terrible earthquakes.
