Sellrain is a municipality with 1,324 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2020) in the Innsbruck-Land district in Tyrol ( Austria ). The municipality is located in the judicial district of Innsbruck .

geography

Sellrain is the main town in the Sellraintal , which branches off from the Inn Valley .

The community lies at the foot of the Fotscher Windegg ( 2577  m above sea level ) and is traversed by the Melach .

The municipality includes the settlements on the Sellraintalstraße , the Sonnenberg on the slope and the Fotschertal branching off to the south .

history

The place developed around the iron-containing mineral spring Rothenbrunn, which has been used by Innsbruck nobles and citizens since the Middle Ages .

In the course of the last municipal council and mayor elections in 2016 , Georg Dornauer ( We Sellrainer ) became mayor and Benedikt Singer ( together for Sellrain ) became vice mayor.

2010

The penultimate mayoral elections took place at the same time as the municipal council elections on March 14, 2010 . Norbert Jordan ( unified list - we for Sellrain ) became mayor and Georg Dornauer sen. ( We Sellrainer ) elected Vice Mayor.

Norbert Jordan became the longest serving Mayor of Austria at the age of 38 (after the end of the 2016 legislative period).

In 2013 the son of Georg Dornauer senior, Dr. Georg Dornauer jun., Who competed against his father in 2010 with his own list, took his position as vice mayor after Georg Dornauer sen. resigned from this office.

• Village church:

The village church was built in 1705 from the income from the pilgrimage to St. Quirin.

• Pilgrimage Church of St. Quirin:

The pilgrimage church of St. Quirin, located on the hillside and visible from afar, is particularly worth seeing and a destination for numerous visitors thanks to its late Gothic wall paintings and carved figures from around 1400 and 1500.

Economy and tourism

The Fotschertal is a popular hiking, tobogganing and ski touring area. A special feature are the 36 bridges in the municipality, which connect different districts with each other.

In contrast to St. Sigmund and Kühtai, tourism hardly plays a role, Sellrain is a typical commuter community.
