Since June 2, 2019, Dornauer has been a member of the Federal Party Executive and the Federal Party Presidium of the SPÖ.

Controversy

As early as November 22, 2018, the former federal minister and at that time SP women's chairwoman Gabriele Heinisch-Hosek and others called for Dornauer to resign from all state functions because of a statement that was perceived as sexist in a state parliament session the previous week (with the Greens absent due to illness - State Councilor Gabriele Fischer targeted wording: "I do not want to imagine the State Councilor in the horizontal." ). Dornauer apologized for the wording at the same meeting.

Dornauer's statement only became publicly known a week later - two days after the election as party chairman-designate - through the publication of the relevant video clip from the Tyrolean state parliament.

The SPÖ chairwoman Pamela Rendi-Wagner announced on November 22, 2018 on Facebook: “The statement by Georg Dornauer jun. is unacceptable. This makes him unsustainable as deputy federal party chairman. I have drawn the conclusions, and therefore he will not take on any federal political functions - neither in the presidium nor in the executive board. "

The dispute between the federal party and Dornauer was settled a little later. After the Ibiza affair became known and the announced new elections, Dornauer was accepted into the federal party presidium and the federal executive committee of the SPÖ on June 2, 2019.

In the course of the 2019 election campaign , Dornauer claimed that the ÖVP politician Barbara Thaler had received extraordinary party donations from companies for her EU election campaign. In a settlement concluded by a judge, Dornauer undertook in November 2019 to “refrain from making statements or allegations of the same meaning and to revoke them publicly as untrue” and to pay the legal costs.

Others

In November 2019, the police discovered a loaded hunting rifle in Dornauer's Porsche parked in a parking garage , which was lying on the back seat with the window open. The police secured the weapon. A weapons ban was pronounced against Dornauer and an official investigation was opened. The weapons ban, which was initially limited, was declared indefinite on December 10th, as a result of which Dornauer was also officially withdrawn from his hunting license. Since Dornauer reserved the right to object to the decision , it was initially unclear whether he would also be dismissed as the hunting director of the Sellrain hunting community or whether the Tyrolean Hunters Association would initiate disciplinary proceedings in this matter .
