Elisabeth Blanik (born January 30, 1966 in Lienz ) is an Austrian politician ( SPÖ ) and the incumbent mayor of the city of Lienz. From 2016 to 2018 she was regional party leader of the SPÖ Tirol .

education and profession

Elisabeth Blanik graduated from elementary and secondary school in Lienz from 1972 and from 1980 attended the technical school for women in business. In 1981 she moved to the Federal Commercial Academy in Lienz, which she graduated with a high school diploma in 1986. From 1986 Blanik studied architecture at the Technical University of Vienna . After work breaks, she was able to complete her studies in 1998 with the academic degree Dipl.-Ing. to lock.

Elisabeth Blanik worked from 1988 to 1991 in the Gaber-Karrer architectural office and from 1991 to 1992 for the Dipl.-Ing. Paula in Vienna. From 1992 to 1994 she worked in the Lemberger architecture office. In 1998 she worked at Connect-Austria. In 1999 she returned to her home town professionally and worked for the Jungmann architects in Lienz until 2000. She then worked for the architecture office Oberlik ZT GesmbH until 2003.

politics

Blanik has been a member of the Tyrolean state parliament and a member of the finance committee since October 21, 2003 . In 2003 it was ranked tenth on the state list and moved up to the state parliament through the participation of the SPÖ in government. Since March 2004 she was the second deputy mayor of the city of Lienz. For the state elections in 2008 Blanik was ranked second on the SPÖ state list and thus received a permanent place in the Tyrolean state parliament. In 2011 Blanik was elected mayor of the city of Lienz and was confirmed in her office in the mayoral election in 2016.

At the party convention of the SPÖ Tirol on October 22, 2016, she was elected chairman of the state party with 92.78 percent of the vote, succeeding Ingo Mayr . In November 2018 she gives up the party chairmanship in the Tyrolean SPÖ, Georg Dornauer was appointed by the state party executive as the party leader. On April 28, 2019, Dornauer was also elected as her successor as club chairman from May 1, 2019 at a club retreat of the Tyrolean Social Democrats.
