Gun ban
As weapons ban Mitführverbote be called of weapons, which is irrelevant whether these a weapons permit or a weapons pass subject. The bans serve to prevent crime and are introduced in particular in socially disadvantaged areas with an increased risk of crime and in areas in which a drug scene has established itself.
history
As a reaction to violent crime, gun bans were introduced in German-speaking countries in the course of the current and the previous decade, which also affect those weapons that do not require a gun license (see article section classification ) .A gun ban has been in effect in Hamburg since December 2007; introduced two social hot spots. In 2018, the gun ban was introduced in the area of the Linz main train station.
classification
Gun bans are not explicitly linked to firearms requiring a gun license, but also to objects that occur in everyday life and in every household, but are misappropriated for criminal offenses. For example, objects used for certain sports, such as baseball bats, fall under the gun ban or household items such as kitchen knives. Exempt from the ban on weapons are enforcement officers from the police or the customs administration as well as employees of guard and security services, who are allowed to carry pepper sprays or batons. In the Hamburg district of St. Pauli, women are allowed to bring pepper sprays with them for self-defense.

- Vienna : In Vienna, weapons bans came into force in two zones on February 1, 2019, these affect the area of the Praterstern , which has become a social hotspot after the drug scene has established itself here. There is also a gun ban on the Danube Canal in the area between the city center and the Leopoldstadt district .
criticism
In Vienna, the gun ban is accepted by a clear majority of politicians and the population, but there has been criticism in particular that it does not cover the entire urban area, but only two smaller areas of Vienna, as there could be potential relocation effects. The mayor of Vienna, Michael Ludwig , is therefore calling for the gun ban zone to be extended to the entire city.
