The Porsche Macan is an SUV from the automobile manufacturer Porsche . The car was presented on November 20, 2013 and has been on the market since the beginning of 2014. It is smaller than the Porsche Cayenne and is based on the Audi Q5 8R ( modular longitudinal construction kit ). The complete production and assembly of the Macan takes place in the Porsche factory in Leipzig .

The model represents the fifth model series from Porsche. The starting price of the Macan in Germany is 59,792 euros (as of 2019). After Porsche planned sales of over 60,000 units a year, over 100,000 had already been sold by June 2015.

designation

The working title for the development project was Cajun . The name Macan comes from Indonesian and translated means tiger . In contrast to the Indonesian pronunciation ( mat͡ʃɑn ), the model series is pronounced makɑn , as this is easier to pronounce across the language. The Indonesian word makan , which is (roughly) pronounced makɑn, on the other hand, means "to eat".

classification

From a legal point of view, the vehicle is a variant of the Audi Q5 , as it takes on its type approval. The adoption of the type approval allows the refrigerant R134a to continue to be used for the air conditioning system, which is not permitted for new developments.

The model is of particular importance for the Chinese market. In China, Porsche is known less as a sports car manufacturer than as a manufacturer of large SUVs.

Technical specifications

From April 2014 one diesel and two petrol engines were offered. The two V6 petrol engines with two turbochargers produce a maximum of 250 kW (340 hp) in the Macan S (3.0 liter displacement) and up to 294 kW (400 hp) in the Macan Turbo (3.6 l). The 3.0-liter V6 diesel engine in the Macan S Diesel has an output of up to 190 kW (258 hp).

In China and Brazil, the Macan is also available with a 2.0-liter inline four-cylinder with turbocharger (TFSI) and 174 kW (237 hp). Power-reduced V6 diesel versions are only available in Belgium and Norway with 155 kW (211 hp) and in Italy with 184 kW (250 hp).

At the Paris Motor Show in October 2016, Porsche presented the Turbo with a performance package . The output increases by 30 kW (40 hp) and the torque by 50 Nm. The vehicle accelerates to 100 km / h in 4.4 seconds, and the top speed increases by 6 km / h to 272 km / h compared to the turbo. The performance package has been available to order since September 2016; the first vehicles were delivered in December 2016.

In February 2018, Porsche stopped producing all of its diesel models for the time being. The Macan is also affected.

For the 2019 facelift, Porsche donated two new engines to the Macan. The Macan S gets the three-liter V6 with 260 kW known from the Cayenne and Panamera , the Macan Turbo gets the 2.9-liter V6 biturbo with 324 kW.

Registration numbers

Since the market launch up to and including December 2019, a total of 46,618 Macans have been newly registered in the Federal Republic of Germany. In 2016, 2017 and 2019, the SUV was the most frequently registered Porsche vehicle in Germany before the 911 .

Callbacks

  • In September 2016, a “voluntary recall” was announced in the wake of the emissions scandal , in which 10,500 Macans with diesel engines are to receive new control software.
  • In May 2018 it became known that Porsche would have to recall 53,000 Porsche Macan diesels again. Five illegal defeat devices were found on these vehicles. The engine developed by Audi ( VW EA897 ) has already been complained about in numerous other vehicles of the VW Group due to illegal defeat devices .
  • On October 25, 2018, the first judgment in the emissions scandal was issued against Porsche AG. The company was sentenced by the Stuttgart Regional Court to take back a Cayenne Diesel car against repayment of the purchase price, including a compensation for use. This car was equipped with the 3.0-liter engine from Audi, which is also installed in the Macan. In addition, Porsche was ordered to pay additional damages.
