The Porsche Cayenne is a model from the German car manufacturer Porsche . With the car introduced in 2002, Porsche expanded its range of models, which until then consisted only of sports cars , to include a sports utility vehicle . The main market for the Cayenne is the USA .

The Porsche Cayenne (type 9PA) was built from 2002 to 2010, with direct injection engines and a facelift since 2007 . The successor model Porsche Cayenne (type 92A) was built since 2010. The premiere of the third generation ( Porsche Cayenne (type PO536) ) took place on August 29, 2017 ; it was shown to the public at the IAA in September 2017.

Development and production

To save development and production costs, Porsche and Volkswagen cooperated. The VW Touareg and the Audi Q7 are based on the same platform as the Cayenne.

For the production of the SUV , Porsche built a plant in Leipzig , where the engine, the transmission and all other components and groups were built into the body. The 500,000th Cayenne rolled off the assembly line there in July 2013. Since June 8, 2015, it has also rolled off the assembly line at the VW Osnabrück plant ; an additional 20,000 Cayenne models were assembled there. To this end, production of the Porsche Boxster and Cayman models was relocated to the main plant in Zuffenhausen .

The body of the Cayenne was produced together with those of the VW Touareg, Bentley Bentayga and Audi Q7 at the VW plant in Bratislava (Slovakia).

The Porsche Cayenne has been completely produced in the VW plant in Bratislava (Slovakia) since the 3rd generation (type PO536). In March 2019, the third-generation Porsche Cayenne Coupé was presented.

Registration numbers

Since the market launch in 2002 up to and including December 2019, a total of 97,004 Cayennes have been newly registered in the Federal Republic of Germany. 2012 was the most successful sales year with 8,521 units.
