The XVII. Pan American Games were held from 10 to 26 July 2015 in the Canadian Toronto instead. 41 countries participated in 36 sports.
Choice of venue
Toronto prevailed in the award by the Pan American Sports Organization on November 6, 2009 against competitors Lima ( Peru ) and Bogotá ( Colombia ) in the first round of voting. The Games were held in Toronto and the Golden Horseshoe region . The Rogers Center was chosen as the central stadium, where the opening and closing ceremonies also take place . The sports facilities were roughly divided into three zones: the Central Games Zone (spread across the cities of Toronto, Mississauga , Brampton , Richmond Hill and Markham ), the West Games Zone (in Hamilton ) and the East Games Zone (in Oshawa , Whitby , Ajax and Pickering ). In addition, there were sports venues located in Barrie , St. Catharines , Caledon , Minden Hills and Welland .

doping
A total of 16 athletes have so far been excluded from the games after positive doping tests .
Among them was the Colombian cyclist María Luisa Calle , who tested positive for doping after participating in the team pursuit . As a result, she did not go to the start of the individual pursuit to defend her title.
